      <image:title>Home - Supporting The Butterfly Project</image:title>
<image:caption>The Butterfly Project trains young people from village and slum areas to be changemakers, teaching them a range of subjects, to help them learn to be international citizens. The aim is to help to find young people who can bring change and improved living standards to the most challenging parts of the country. The school will play a very significant part in the Butterfly Project, providing a home for those children selected to become part of the project, a high quality educational institution, where they can learn the Ugandan school curriculum, a training centre for their training as social entrepreneurs and changemakers and a location where they can learn to manage their own social projects, working with local children and youth.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - A modern school, a rounded curriculum</image:title>
<image:caption>The Chrysalis Secondary School will fuse the best of Ugandan culture and international education. While Uganda performs well against other educational systems in Africa there are still a number of areas where it falls short. Caning is still endemic in some schools, equipment is always in short supply and specialist teaching in science, ethics, computer programming, social enterprise etc is rare. We believe that in order to develop changemakers children need a modern, balanced education where encouragemnt is the norm and punishment the exception</image:caption>

<image:title>Boardgaming - Boardgames have the power to transform lives</image:title>
<image:caption>At Chrysalis Secondary School we believe that boardgaming can bring children together, develop interpersonal and problem solving skills and open children’s minds to the challenges and opportunity in the wider world. Children growing up in villages follow a set of rules and through the medium of boardgames we aim to help them challenge at least some of these rules. Using games, young people can gain critical personal development skills – planning, social skills, resource management, memory, maths, self confidence to name a few – all of which help them find solutions to problems in the communities. Why is board gaming important for the children of Uganda? Board games provide a window to the outside world, which can inspire them to think of a life outside the village Playing board games develop confidence, as children realise their capabilities Written text in games can encourage children to improve their reading skills, so as to be able to compete on a level footing Co-operative games encourage working together, a necessity to solve rural problems, when cash is less available Board game themes can make other learning more fun or introduce new topics. For instance, games about global warming are a useful vehicle to explain the reasons for climate change. Board games are not usually electricity-dependent, so they can be played in areas where power is unreliable or non-existent Games are enjoyable to children and encourage sociability. This will have a long-term benefit to them in making friends and improving relationships Villages have little available for children to tax their mental abilities and games can help cognitive development, as a result, as well as identify those who would benefit most from a higher level of education</image:caption>

<image:title>Athletics - A rounded education must support the body as well as the mind.</image:title>
<image:caption>The African continent has produced some of the greatest athletes to grace the international stage. We believe that athletic participation, whether for competition or recreation is key to a happy, healthy life. Participation in athletics develops healthy minds as well as healthy bodies. By teaching our students the importance of exercise and healthy lifestyles we are encouraging self-discipline and developing self-worth. By encouraging students to take ownership of the clubs and competitions they develop confidence and organisational and social skills.</image:caption>

<image:title>Music - We believe that every child has a talent and deserves to be given the opportunity to express themselves</image:title>
<image:caption>Music has the power to inspire, console, bring people together and break down boundaries. Music is part of the fabric of Africa, it plays so many roles and tells so many stories. At Chrysalis Secondary School we believe that music is a powerful tool for children to express themselves, develop their empathy and release their creativity. Africa has produced some the world’s most influential musicians and styles of music. We aim to offer our pupils the creative opportunity to express themselves through music so their songs and music tell their stories , inspire community participation, and lead to entrepreneurship both locally and globally using digital technologies. We aim to work with world leading music organisation such as RSL Awards to give our pupils widely recognised qualifications which have supported successful musicians around the world.</image:caption>

<image:title>Our Vision - The best teachers are those who show you where to look, but don’t tell you what to see</image:title>
<image:caption>The Chrysalis Secondary School in Omoro, Northern Uganda takes the best of the Ugandan national curriculum and supplements it with training in social entrepreneurship, current affairs and global challenges such as climate change and international relations. Through a unique focus on boardgaming, athletics and music we provide children in the region with a modern, rounded education, teaching them that anyone can become a change maker if they are given the opportunity.</image:caption>

<image:title>Female empowerment - Education holds the key to empowerment, changing the lives of women living in poverty and in developing countries.</image:title>
<image:caption>A good education can boost quality of life and open doors to decent work opportunities. It can give women and girls the life skills they need in order to know and claim their rights, to stand up against discrimination and violence, to become fully engaged citizens and to make decisions about their health care, including their sexual and reproductive health. It also benefits children, families and societies more broadly through poverty reduction and enhanced economic growth. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) include achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls (SDG 5) and some progress has been made in this worldwide. Yet in Africa, centuries-old gender injustices prevail and deny many girls an education, especially at secondary level, and there is an expectation for them to stay at home to look after younger siblings or to marry early, perhaps as young as 13 years. Chrysalis School will work with other agencies to advance gender equality through girls’ education. Girls will be encouraged to stay at school to A level and to go on to university, if they wish. It will therefore have an impact on reducing child marriage in Uganda and will promote good health and well-being of girls during the critical years of their lives. It may also have an impact on child mortality in Uganda. Education will give them a sense of self-worth, pride and confidence. Young women can be change-makers and their leadership can bring vitality, creativity and courage to a country. They have the power to inspire and mobilize others for positive change and to encourage the questioning of systems and beliefs that limit their lives and choices.</image:caption>
